Meditation Matters

Why Is It Important to Meditate?

Many people complain that they can’t sit still for five minutes let alone achieve a state of thoughtless awareness through meditation, but it’s not as hard as you think.

If you can’t stand the idea of sitting with your legs crossed and chanting ‘ohm’ for hours, don’t worry. The most common way to meditate may be to sit quietly and let your mind and body relax. However, a state of meditation can be achieved by doing anything that calms your mind. For some people, this might be dancing, singing, writing, drawing, cooking, or even cleaning!

Why should I Meditate?

Why Not? A regular meditation routine will not only make you feel better but it will make you look good as well. Here are three top benefits of a regular meditation routine.

1) You’ll get your beauty sleep: The calmness in your body after you meditate will lower your stress levels, allowing you to sleep deeper at night, giving your immune system a much needed chance to repair.

2) You’ll start thinking clearly and make better decisions: By redirecting your emotional responses away from your adrenals, you’ll also be able to make logical decisions because you will have the patience to think before you react in times of stress.

3) You’ll be happy: Many people with a regular meditation routine also report more enjoyment in their lives as they are able to be fully present and live in the moment.

How Do I Start Meditating?

The easiest way to develop a meditation routine is to start in a group or a class. The collective group energy will help you relax faster and go into a deeper state of meditation. Once you know what you’re aiming for, start your at-home routine.

Pick a regular time of day (morning or evening) and a regular place for your meditation practice (somewhere quiet and comfortable) and begin by listening to one guided meditation per session. When you feel ready, you can just listen to soft music and eventually you will be able to meditate with no music at all, simply enjoying the sounds of your surroundings as let your mind unwind. Finding a sense of calm and clarity in every day life is an asset and has many benefits. Once you have the hang of the meditation process you will never lose it and will have the ability to tap into this peaceful state at any time.
